Shkin, Afghanistan--  The Defense Department said Wednesday that 35-year-old Staff Sgt. Robert S. Goodwin was killed Monday in Shkin, Afghanistan.

Goodwin and Staff Sgt. Tony B. Olaes of Walhalla South Carolina died when their patrol vehicle was ambused by enemy forces using small arms fire and rocket propelled grenades.

Both men were assigned to the 3rd Special forces group Headquarted at Fort Bragg North Carolina, and assigned in support of opeation Enduring Freedom.
