Limb knocks out power to Downtown

September 21, 2004

Albany -- Much of downtown Albany lost power for about thirty minutes Tuesday afternoon, because of a transformer fire.

A limb fell onto a main power line in the alley near Sixth Avenue and North Jackson Street, shorting out this transformer. It caught on fire, but did little damage.

Power from the Riverquarium to Phoebe Putney Hospital was knocked out. Water Gas and Light workers restored the power in about a half an hour.

The transformer will not need to be replaced.
