Civil rights tour bus stops in Albany

September 21, 2004

Albany- The AARP Voices of Civil Rights bus tour stopped in Albany Monday.

Over the course of a year, volunteers will travel across the country collecting first-hand accounts of the events during the civil rights era told by people who weren't necessarily at the forefront of the movement.

"There's really a heavy emphasis on looking at ordinary people whose faces weren't on the cover of the newspaper and the things that they did and experienced during the Civil Rights Movement," says State Director, Ken Mitchell.

Albany is the first stop the bus made in Georgia. It will travel to Macon and then Atlanta before the end of the week.
