Valdosta - Five fallen heroes are honored in Valdosta.

Valdosta Police Commander Steve Heaton recently helped with a training exercise in Manassas, Virginia. The Manassas Police Department gave Heaton a plaque with a reproduction from the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington of the names of five Valdosta officers killed in the line of duty.

"At the end of his visit, they presented him with the plaque. It was certainly unexpected but we all are just overwhelmed with it," said Lt. Brian Childress of the Valdosta police Department.

The Valdosta Police Department recently received a grant to build a similar memorial.
