Albany - Civil Rights and political activist Reverend Jesse Jackson came to Albany Wednesday to encourage Albany State University students to vote. Jackson met with ASU students before speaking about the importance of young, black people voting in this year's presidential election.

"So many votes of the young and poor are being spoiled or disenfranchised," said Jackson. "We intend to put a lot of focus this year on voter franchise. In 2000, it was win or lose. The loser won because votes were unprotected. A million black votes were unprotected in 2000, and we can and must do better."

Jackson also spoke about the war in Iraq. He critized the Bush administration for spending money for war that he says should be spent to improve the economic stability of the U.S.
