Storm clean up underway in Lowndes

Lowndes County - About a thousand Georgia Power customers are still without power.

Six roads have been closed because of downed power lines or wash outs. Dozens of trees have been snapped in half or completely uprooted, like the huge oak tree in Saint Barnabas Episcopal Church's yard.

The sun is drying up much of the water now, but earlier today, many streets were completely covered with water.

"We've still got several trees down that have been called in so we're going out and getting those cleaned up and all of the debris that's been moved out of the roadway, we have crews working today in the rain to try and get that debris up so things are going well," said Paige Dukes.

Lowndes County has received about five and a half inches of rain since Monday morning.
