Hurricane effects blood supply

September 4, 2004

Albany -- South Georgia's blood supplies are feeling the effects of Hurricane Frances

Donations are already critically low in our area and now Frances has forced closed several centers on the east coast of Florida that help meet demands in South Georgia.

"What is happening is that this a holiday weekend and on holiday weekends we are normally very short with blood donations and usage is up," says Pasty McMath of the Red Cross.

Albany's Red Cross is keeping it's blood donation centers open an extra day this weekend to draw in donors. If you would like to donate you can go to the center tomorrow between noon and five o'clock.
