Warehouse fire burns throughout night

September 2, 2004

Sumter County- Southwest Georgia firefighters are still battling a blaze began burning Thursday morning.

The fire broke out in a Georgia Cold Storage Company in Sumter County that stored peanuts and MRE's for the military.

"We've got additional units here from Leslie, Andersonville, Lee County, fire units from all over and we're just hoping to keep it down and keep it from spreading," said Sheriff Bob Ingle.

Magnesium in the MRE's is making the fire harder to fight because it heats up when water is poured on it.

No one has been hurt so far, but American Red Cross Workers were on the scene trying to keep the fire fighters from overheating.
