Tallahassee-- It appears Hahira's Stephen Drew will soon join the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Florida State shortstop withdrew from classes this morning, just five days after enrolling for the fall semester.
Stephen Drew decided to withdraw from class after the Diamondbacks made a new contract offer yesterday. The Arizona Republic is reporting the new offer is worth more than six million dollars and Drew's agent Scott Boras told his client last night not to go to class Tuesday, because Boras believes a deal with the Diamondbacks will be reached.
The only question now is when. Our sources in Valdosta say it could be matter of days or matter of weeks before the final details are worked out.
When and if he signs, Stephen Drew would likely play in the Arizona Fall League and more than likely will be given a chance to make the Diamondbacks major league club in spring training next year.
