Locks that keep thieves out

August 29. 2004

Albany -- So how do you protect yourself from becoming a victim of a potentially dangerous burglary? Safety experts say your doors are good place to start.

Installing dead bolt locks and security latches on your front and back doors can go a long way in keeping intruders out. Experts say picking the right style of lock has a lot to do with the types of doors you have.

"If you have glass windows in your doors you want to get a dead bolt where you have to use a key to open it on both sides," says Jim Blandford of Home Depot.

Experts say if you hear an intruder breaking in through your door you should immediately try to escape in the opposite direction.
