Sumter County -- A Sumter County jailer is arrested for smuggling drugs to an inmate. Derek Harris is now out on bond after being arrested on Thursday for possession of marijuana. Investigators says Harris brought marijuana into the jail and gave some to an inmate. Harris admitted that this was not the first time he smuggled contraband into the jail.
He said he was paid by the inmate's friends and relatives on the outside. The case is still under investigation and other charges are pending. Harris, who had been a jailer for 3 years, was fired.
