Thomasville - The man who built Thomas University's softball program into a national champion has resigned.
oach Thomas Macera resigned on Wednesday after agreeing to become head coach at Lynn University, a NCAA Division II school in Boca Raton, Florida.
Macera was an assistant at Valdosta State when he was hired at Thomas University five years ago won more than 200 games in five seasons and in the last two years took the Lady Night Hawks to the NAIA national tournament where Thomas University won the school's first national championship in any sport in May.
Macera says Thomas University is planning a nationwide search for his replacement but he has recommended his former assistant Vinny Dima for the job.
Macera also believes the talent on 2005 Lady Night Hawk team may be better than that on 2004 national championship squad.
