Move over or pay $500.00

August 16, 2004

Moultrie - If you don't follow a new rule of the road, you could put emergency workers at risk and you could be out 500 bucks.

That's how much a ticket will cost you in Georgia if you're caught disobeying a new law.

If you drive past a stopped emergency vehicle, you have to slow down and move to the lane farthest from the emergency vehicle.

The law is designed to protect those on the side of the road. Moultrie Police Sergeant Sam Smith, says, "We still get some people who want to fly by within inches of a patrol car or fire truck or what have you."

This law includes most vehicles with flashing lights, including tow trucks and highway maintenance trucks.
