New panel reviews APD hiring

August 15, 2004

Albany -- The city manager hopes a new panel will help find answers to how the city's Police department hired some untrustworthy officers. In the last 8-years 12 officers faced charges ranging from battery to shoplifting.

Now a three member panel made up of the city attorney, the human resources director and a law enforcement expert will review past violations of APD hiring practices and find ways to improve the process.

After reviewing all the information the panel will make recommendations to the city manager and help direct any appropriate follow-up actions.
