Stricter security for neighborhoods

August 12, 2004

Valdosta - A South Georgia city is tightening security in its neighborhoods.

New security cameras will soon cover about 90 percent of the Ora Lee Housing Development in Valdosta. Officers will be able to monitor all activity 24 hours a day from the police department and housing authority office.

"We've really not had an increase in crime that we've noticed over the past few years but its more of a tool that we saw we were able to take advantage of to just provide better security for our residents," said Stalvey.

The housing development hopes to have the security system up and running by the end of the year.

Eventually, they hope to install the cameras in the Hudson Dockett Housing Development.
