Albany-- The mother of a teenage girl who collapsed and died at school is suing the Dougherty County School System.
In February, ninth grader Marquita Adams stopped breathing and died at Westover High School. Her mother, Sharon Adams, is claiming wrongful death.
911 recordings showed school employees stopped the first emergency call and called back four minutes later. The lawsuit claims they stopped the call because they first needed to notify the principal who was in a meeting.
Mrs. Adams also claims school employees failed to begin CPR immediately. Adams is asking for compensatory damages.
Marquita got a heart transplant in 1999 but was considered a healthy teenager, and would have turned 15 next Wednesday.
