Former Lowndes County officer to be arraigned in N.Y.
August 3, 2004
Albany -- A former Lowndes County Sheriff's Deputy, charged with selling designer drugs over the Internet, will be arraigned in court in New York City next week.
32 year old Doug Thompson of Valdosta will be tried in New York because that's where the website was created. Thompson is one of ten people charged with the Internet sale of chemicals used to make ecstasy-type drugs.
Prosecutors say the chemicals killed two people and sickened 14 others.
If convicted of selling narcotics, Thompson could face 20 years in prison and one million dollars in fines.
