Albany -- A new part of National Night Out, the Albany Police Department is asking people to donate blood to the American Red Cross.

Investigator Keithen Hall took time to give the gift of life Tuesday morning at the South Georgia Community Blood Center. There is a shortage of blood this summer, especially the O and B Types. Albany Police Officers hope people taking part in National Night Out will donate.

Hall said "We just want to make the community aware that we are trying to get out and do what we need to do. We are asking them to come out also and participate."

The Blood Center on Dawson Road is open from 10:00 to 7:00 daily.

If you donate now, you will be entered in a drawing and have a chance to win $1,500  worth of gas.
