Ellaville-- Talk of a BellSouth strike raises concerns about a delay in the opening of a South Georgia 911 center.
Work is ongoing at the Middle Flint Regional Emergency 911 Center that will serve seven counties.
The 911 center was expected to open in October, but it appears it will not be fully operational until the first of the year.
Director Mike Yates blames the delay on several reasons, but says a possible BellSouth strike isn't helping, "We had heard just unofficial rumors and things like that a couple months ago that it was anticipated possibly in August and we have heard the same things again but nothing has happened so we are going to continue what we are doing until something transpires."
BellSouth's efforts are needed to process the address database vital to the 911 center.
The 911 center is partially paid for with a One Georgia grant and will be the largest center of its kind in the state.
