No West Nile this year

August 1, 2004

Albany- According to the Centers For Disease Control there haven't been any confirmed human cases of the disease in Georgia this year.

Last year there were 50 cases of the virus and four deaths statewide. Researchers had predicted similar numbers for this year.

Scientists believe low rainfall amounts in the early part of the summer and improvements in the ability to detect mosquito-borne viral activity may be helping to keep this year's numbers low.
