School lunch prices on the rise

July 29, 2004

Worth County -- The cost of lunch for many Worth County students is going up.

Reduced lunch prices will go up 5 cents this year to 45-cents. The Worth County school board says the increase is a result of a tight school budget and increasing expenses for everything from meat to milk.

"It is a self funded program, it is not something that the district subsidizes, it has to be self substaining. It has to pay for its own benefits program ," says Dr. Gary Russell Worth School  Superintendent.

Superintendent Russell says this is the first time Worth County has increased the price of school lunch since 1996.
