Atlanta- Basketball was on the agenda at the SIAC football summer meeting.
SIAC commissioner Dr. William Lide and Albany city officials worked out the final details to bring the conference's men's and womens' basketball tournaments back to the Albany Civic Center for a second straight year.
The contract between the SIAC and the city is for only one year but the city of Albany is expected to pursue a multi-year contract to keep the tournament here for many years after that.
The tournament was held for years in Birmingham but dwindling attendance saw the SIAC look for a new site when Dr. Lide became commissioner.
Attendance for the 2004 tournament at the Albany Civic Center wasn't what the city or conference officials had hoped but one of the reasons for that is that local favorite Albany State's men and women's teams both lost in the opening round.
Albany State also found out that the SIAC volleyball tournament is returning to the HPER gym.
The Lady Rams volleyball team has won the last three SIAC titles.
