Car thefts on the rise in Albany

Albany - Better lock your car. Motor vehicle theft is up a whopping 41 percent in Albany.

Violent crime is also up by 9.4 percent. The big contributor there, robbery, which is up nearly 25 percent in Albany.

Better news when it comes to murder, down 14 percent and rape down 14 percent.

Albany Police Lieutenant Kenn Singleton says, "Here again, in our everyday, daily patrol, our officers are out there beating the bushes and making daily contacts with people on the streets, what we call field interviews, talking to people, stop, walk and talk, just find out what's going on."

Albany Police had hoped to reduce crime by 10 percent last year.

They fell short, the overall crime rate dropped 3.9 percent.
