Former jailer charged in world wide drug ring

July 22, 2004

Valdosta-- Ex-Lowndes County Jailer Doug Thompson was arrested in New York, in connection with a world wide drug ring.

The 32-year-old Thompson is charged with selling illegal drugs over the Internet. The Valdostan is one of three people charged arrested for operating a web-site that sold club drugs similar to ecstasy.

Thompson was a Lowndes County Jail Operations Officer from 1997 until April 1999, when he resigned.

Investigators say Thompson worked with April Curtis of the Bronx and Raymond Duncan from California running a website that sold illegal narcotics.

Authorities say that the trio bought the drugs from a Chinese pharmacy, and distributed them through Federal Express across the country. Thompson had a bond hearing in Albany and was released on $15,000 bond Thursday morning.
