Summer reading camp at funeral home

July 22, 2004

Albany-- A funeral home is in the business of teaching young children too!

Thursday is the last day of the Litman Funeral Home Summer Reading Camp. For six years, Shirley Litman, a retired school teacher, has opened the doors of her family business to neighborhood children.

Other retired teachers visited the camp to read to the kids. Litman says, "Reading is the key, if you can't read you can't do very much of anything."

She puts her money where her mouth is--the Litman family offers the reading program for free. After three decades of teaching reading skills, Shirley Litman says she wants to pass on the joy of reading to young people.
