Homerville - An indicted South Georgia district attorney will not serve another term in office.

Homerville attorney Cathy Helms beat incumbent Bob Ellis in the democratic primary for the Alapaha Circuit D.A.'s seat.

A federal grand jury indicted Ellis who's accused of having sex with a drug defendant and telling her to lie to investigators. Helms says she hopes to bring some much needed change to the district attorney's office. "The main thing I want to do is restore confidence in the office, we need to see that the criminals get off the streets as soon as possible, and that they're kept off the streets," said Helms.

Helms will face Homerville Attorney Jody Steedley who was unopposed in the Republican primary for the Alapaha district attorney seat.
