Albany - Darton College golf coach Dale Dover, whose Cavaliers finished sixth in the NJCAA Division II golf tournament back in May, is getting a sneak preview of his 2004-05 squad at the second annual Albany Junior Open.
And Dover is no doubt looking forward to the coming season after what he saw in round one on Monday.
Darton signee Michael Gordy shot a 74 and leads rising Cavalier sophomore Brandon Anthony by a shot in the 18 & under age division.
Two shots out of the lead are another Darton signee, Ryan Parker and 2003 Albany Junior Open champion Jake Stewart who both shot 76's.
The 18 & under age division is playing from the pro or gold tees in this tournament.
Kyle Goff shot the low round of the day with a 67 to lead the 15 & under age group which is playing from the blue tees.
Matt Harrell and Evan Hanna are tied for second place after they both shot an even par 72.
Brad Germany' 77 has him in the lead in the 13 & under age division and Columbus' John Howard fired a 38 on the front nine to lead Hunter Ivins by one shot.
The 11 & under group will play the back nine on Tuesday.
Josh Pollock shot a 15 on four holes to win the 8 & under group by three shots over Cole Noterman.
The second round is Tuesday morning at the Stonebridge Country Club but before play begins the field will be treated to a golf by clinic by Hall of Famer Nancy Lopez.
