Tax hike could save fire dept.

July 16, 2004

Ocilla- Ocilla city leaders say the $150,000 a year it takes to run the fire department is draining the city's revenue.

They say raising taxes may be the only way to prevent the fire department from going back to an all volunteer operation. Officials say the expected increase would be approximately a mill and a half.

The city commission will vote on the tax increase during their August 3rd meeting.
