Albany -- The owner of a popular Albany restaurant, arrested on drug charges Thursday, made his first appearance before a judge Friday morning.

45-year-old Johnny Gargano is charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, and possession of marijuana.

Gargano and 40-year-old Donald Hammock were both arrested outside Villa Gargano's Italian Restaurant on North Slappey early Thursday morning. Drug agents found newly cooked meth in their pockets and in Gargano's car, but there was no evidence that the meth was made in the restaurant.

Agents had been staking out the restaurant for more than a month. Gargano and Hammock are being held without bond in the Dougherty County Jail.
