Safeguarding elections from terrorists

July 13, 2004

Albany -- Georgia's Attorney General says the state must stay ready in case terrorists try to disrupt America's elections this year.

Homeland Security officials have warned that the November elections could be a terrorist target. Thurbert Baker says federal, state, and local law enforcement officials must work together to make sure there are no delays in the elections.

Baker said "I think we have to make effort to keep that process moving forward. I don't want to give terrorists the opportunity to say we were able to throw the American system out of sync."

Baker said Georgians must realize the threat of more terrorist attacks is real, and that threat could continue the rest of our lives.
