S. Ga. city one of the lowest water rates

July 12, 2004

Valdosta - A South Georgia city has one of the cheapest water and sewer rates in the state.

Out of 177 city and county water and sewer systems, Valdosta had the 113th lowest rate. The average residential bill in town is 13 percent below the state average.

Taz Dixon owns Super Suds Car Wash and says the low rates help attract business owners like him to this area. "Our water bill is very good," said Dixon. "In comparison to some family members in Tallahassee that have car washes, their water bills are substantially higher, so Valdosta's rate is very good."

The average residential bill for water, sewage and trash pickup in Valdosta is $44.20, compared to the state average of $50.57.
