(Atlanta-AP) -- The Atlanta Hawks have targeted Kenyon Martin as the player they most want on the free-agent market, but as the bidding begins the complication is that Martin is only a restricted free agent.
According to The Atlanta Journal Constitution, Martin left Atlanta with a maximum contract for about 85 (m) million dollars over six years. The newspaper quoted an unnamed person it sail was familiar with the offer. Because Martin is a restricted free agent, New Jersey has 15 days to match any offer the 6-foot-9 forward receives.
Martin visited Denver Wednesday. The danger for the Hawks is missing out on talks with other free agents waiting on Martin. Free agents can begin signing with new teams Wednesday.
Martin's visit in Atlanta began yesterday, only one day after Mike Woodson was introduced as the Hawks' new head coach.
