Residents fear an alligator could hurt their pets

July 9, 2004

Albany-Workers from the Department of Natural Resources say an alligator probably made it to the pond on the corner of Third Avenue and Dawson Road through drainage ditches scattered throughout the area.

DNR says it's not likely the alligator would do any harm to a human, but neighbors are concerned about their pets. Julie Robbins of DNR Wildlife Resources said "We've been out twice this morning. We usually use a fishing line with a treble hook that you can snag the alligator with and draw him in. So far he's broke the hook on us, and he's a little bit smarter and wary of us.

DNR workers gave up their pursuit to catch the alligator. They plan to hire a professional to remove the alligator from the pond.
