Nicholson leaves Southland

June 29, 2004

Americus - Southland Academy baseball coach Billy Nicholson has resigned.

Nicholson is leaving the Raiders program to become head coach at Centennial High School in Roswell.

After serving as an assistant for four years at Southland, Billy Nicholson became the Raiders head coach in 2001.

In four seasons, Nicholson has led Southland to the 2004 GISA AAA state title and the Raiders finished second in the state in 2001 and 2004.

His overall record at Southland was 79-38.

He was also coach the Southland softball team.

Nicholson says he first turned down the Centennial job but that the school made a second offer that was just too good to pass up.

He says he looks forward to a big challenge of moving to a high school that plays in the same region as Georgia High School Association AAAAA champion Milton High and Lassiter which beat Lee County in the state quarterfinals this year.
