Albany - Many high school athletes and coaches are spending their summer break preparing for their coming seasons.
And so are the officials who will referee those games.
Georgia High School Association basketball officials were calling charges, fouls and traveling over the weekend at Albany State's Future Stars team camp.
And those calls were being graded by another officials who was evaluating their peformance.
After the games this weekend, the supervisor would then meet with officiating crew to discuss mechanics, intrepreation of the rules and a new emphasis in the 2004-05 season for the referees, better communication with coaches on the bench.
Referee William Battle said "We have some new mechanics in place this year where the officials will be required to move to the tableside and have more involvement with the coaches. So, we are working with them on being more personal with the coaches this coming basketball season."
The Albany State Future Stars team tournament attracted more than 18 high school teams to the ASU HPER Gym for three days of games on two courts.
