Posey makes first cut for U.S. National team

June 27, 2004

Joplin, Mo. - The USA Baseball Tournament of Stars came to a close today in Joplin, Missouri and most of the 150 high school players invited to the prestigious tournament are heading home.

Lee County's Buster Posey will be staying in Missouri for another week after he made the first cut down to 30 players.

Posey will play another week of games and find out next Sunday if he is one of 18 players selected to play for the United States 18-and under team at the World Championships in Taiwan in last August.

Posey is also one of five Georgia high school players who have been selected to play in the AFLAC high school All-American game in early August at Aberdeen Maryland.

At the USA Tournament of Stars, Posey had five hits in five games and allowed just one hit three scoreless innings with four strikeouts in his only mound appearance.

Posey's USA White squad finished fourth in the eight team tournament and one of the assistants on the USA White team was Lowndes High head baseball coach Danny Redshaw.
