Albany - Friends and family remembered beloved former Dougherty County Superintendent Paul Robertson. Robertson died at his home Monday. Wednesday, the flag flew at half staff and a purple ribbon hung from the Dougherty County School Board building.

Robertson got his start in the school system as a football coach and teacher in 1938. He was also the principal of Albany Junior High School for 23 years, and served as Superintendent from 1972-1986.

Bob Fowler was Robertson's associate Superintendent. "He was a good leader,' said Fowler. "He would give people responsibilities, make it clear what he wanted them to do and let them do it. He used to show up in the schools in the classrooms, the fields and just everywhere. He was a leader that moved around."

Robertson's funeral was held Wednesday at First United Methodist church. He was 87 years-old.
