Leesburg - The Lee County Xtreme Whippets have been extremely good this season.
The 14-and under fast pitch softball team won the ESA state tournament in Griffin last weekend.
In just their second season playing fastpitch tournament, the Xtreme Whippets have posted a
36- 3 record and they have won six tournament titles this summer.
One of those tournament titles has qualified the Whippets for the USFGA World Series in Panama City Beach next month.
The Whippets have won several state titles over the last three years but now they have their sights set on their first national tournament championship.
Whippets rightfielder Brazia Keys "We are trying to get out there and try our best like we have been so far and hopefully we will take it home."
Whippets first baseman Sammi Hatley "Yea, we have played alot of good teams and we just beat them because we played hard and gave it all that we got."
The Xtreme Whippets got their name because they are the result of the merging of two traveling teams, the Xtreme Heat from Lee County and the Albany Whippets.
Coaches Greg Richter, Gene Hollomon and Scott Macey have been coaching many of these players since they were eight years of age.
The USFGA World Series is July 12-17 in Panama City Beach, Florida.
