Tools big hit for Father's Day

June 20, 2004

Albany- Since the first time Father's Day was celebrated as a national holiday retailers have cashed in on the day to honor dad.

Dad's day provides a big boost for home improvement stores. Families were still shopping for those last minute gifts at Lowe's Sunday afternoon.

Store managers say gas grills and gift cards were a big hit this year, but there's no shortage of other items father's say are still on their wish list.

"It's a stereo and a 12-volt battery charger, and it's got outlets for cell phones and all. Pretty neat object. I'd like to have it. I don't know if I'm going to get that or not," says Allen Jackson. But the father of three says he's definitely worth it.

Father's day is second only to Christmas in money making holidays at Lowes home improvement store.
