Valdosta - Valdosta StateUniversity has signed a rental agreement to play their home games this fall at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium.
That may not seem big news since Bazemore-Hyder has been Valdosta State's home field for years.
But it is big news because the Blazers are staying put after failing to work out a lease to play at Lowndes High's Martin Stadium this fall.
Valdosta State did play two games in 1989 and all of their home games in 1990 and 1991 at Martin Stadium.
Valdosta State athletic director Herb Reinhard says there were a number of reasons the Blazers wanted to move their home games.
One is the field turf that the Valdosta City school system is installing in the $7.5 million renovation of Bazemore-Hyder Stadium and the fact that renovation will reduce parking around the stadium.
Reinhard says Valdosta State will continue calling Bazemore-Hyder home until the University can one day build their own stadium.
Reinhard said "We will start very soon sitting down and putting together a planning committee that will work with the University's master planning commitee and we will start developing a time line and we have got alot of work ahead of us and it is not going to happen overnight but we are ready to start moving towards that goal."
Valdosta State will play four home games in 2004 season with the first on September 18th against Harding University.
