Interim D.A. appointed

June 17, 2004

Nashville - The Alapaha Judicial Circuit has a new District Attorney, at least temporarily.

Homerville lawyer Charles Jody Steedley will serve while indicted DA Bob Ellis goes to trial. Ellis is indicted on charges he had sex with a drug defendant.

"I'm blessed and honored to be appointed by Governor Perdue to take this office and I'm very excited about it, there's a lot of work involved in it but I'm looking forward to that and it will be a challenge," said Steedley.

Steedley hopes this will become a permanent job. He's running against Bob Ellis.

Ellis will stand trial in September.
