Storen ready to bring Arena Football to town

June 15, 2004

Albany - Former NBA owner Mike Storen wants to bring an arena football team to Albany.

The question everyone here has is where will he find that team.

Where an Arena Football League team will come from is not the top priority for Mike Storen at this moment.

The first is finalizing an agreement with the city of Albany over the use of the Civic Center.

The proposal from Storen calls for a five year lease but city commissioners want questions answered about a number of issues including how much itg will cost the city to install a playing field.

Once the letter of agreement is reached with the city, Storen then will be able to put together an ownership group.

Storen says then the group will look at finding a team to play in Albany.

Mike Storen said  "We will be addressing after the end of the sesaon if there are any potential teams that would be interested in moving or will be seeking an expansion team and the decision in regards to that question has not been reached."

One team that could be a candidate is the Columbus Wardogs of the Arena2 Football League.

The Wardogs owner unsuccessfully tried to find a buyer here in Albany last year.

The Wardogs are in the first year of a second three year lease in Columbus and Mike Storen says as far as he is knows Columbus is where the Wardogs will continue to play.
