Flint River Herbicide Notice

This notice was issued by the Georgia Power Company.

Hydrilla has been discovered in the area down lake from Sportsman club and on the River Pointe side. Georgia Power Company and Georgia DNR plan to apply a mixture of Herbicides to this area of about 25 acres.

Projected dates are June 9-10, or June 16-17 (inclement Weather backup date).

Residents on the Flint River side of Lake Worth should not:

  • Water livestock using lake water for 24 hours after the treatment
  • Water lawns using lake water for 2 days after the treatment
  • Water gardens or vegetables using lake water for 5 days after the treatment
  • Fishing and contact recreation in Lake Worth will not be affected by the herbicide application.

We plan to apply these herbicides 3-4 times before October 2004 in an effort to prevent hydrilla from clogging the reservoir with plant growth:

Komeen - contains copper as the active ingredient. Made by the Griffin LLC. Company, Valdosta, Ga.

Reward - contains Diquat as the active ingredient. Made by Zeneca professional products, Wilmington, Delaware.
