Albany -- While many Americans reflect on D-Day, memories are always with one South Georgia veteran who was there.
Bill Reed was 25 years old and a 2nd Lieutenant in the Air Force when he parachuted near the beaches of Normandy. Reed landed in the middle of spray of enemy gun fire.
"I started to look up and see if I was going to stay alive I and I saw three Americans parachutists holding gun on three German.
They were holding their hands up like this because they had been the ones that were firing on me from the machine gun nest that was on higher ground," says Reed.
Of the 200 people in his Reed's regiment only 60 returned home with him.
