Albany - A South Georgia teenager was killed in wreck in Bainbridge Saturday morning, and State Troopers say speed was to blame. 18 year-old Thomas Mitchell, of Climax, died when he lost control of his car rounding a sharp curve on Belcher Road around 11:00 Saturday morning.
Mitchell wasn't wearing his seatbelt and was partially ejected from the car. The Acura Integra then rolled over and killed him instantly.
In Valdosta, a 33-year old woman was killed when a truck ran a stop sign and slammed into her car. Julie Jones, of Pavo, was driving down Georgia 122 and approaching the Adel-Quitman Highway intersection in Barney. A GMC truck, driven by Donnie Hand of Baxley, ran the stop sign and hit Jones' car on the driver side.
Jones died on the scene. Her two children, as well as Hand, his wife and daughter, all suffered minor injuries. Charges against Hand are pending the outcome of a GSP investigation.
