South Georgians walk for hunger

June 3, 2004

Albany- The face of hunger never looks the same.

It touches people of different races, sex and age, including plenty of people in Southwest Georgia. That's why walkers set out in downtown Albany today on the first Hunger Walk.

Volunteers walked a mile around the central square to bring attention to hunger here and all over the world.

"We serve some of the poorest counties in the state of Georgia," said Dwayne Myles, executive director of the Food Bank. "Also in the nation. They're extremely poor and a lot of kids go hungry."

Actually, one out of every six children in Georgia are at risk of going hungry at some point each month.
