Tifton- The major league baseball draft is next Monday and Tuesday where speculation has Hahira's Stephen Drew is expected to be the first player picked on Monday.
Another south Georgian hoping to go in the early rounds is Tifton's Nick Green.
Green was drafted in the 11th round last year by the Houston Astros.
But as any Darton baseball fan knows, Green did not sign with the Astros and instead came back for his sophomore season with the Cavaliers.
Green's record was 7-5 and an earned run average 3.49.
Three of his five losses losses came in the first of the season when a young Darton team lost 12 of their first 15 games.
After that, Green won seven of his nine decision and finished with 78 strikeouts in 88 innings.
Nick says he is glad he stayed in school one more year and he hopes that move will pay off on Monday.
Green said "I hear both ways. I hear there is a possibility that I might drop off and I hear there is a possibility I might go higher than I did last year because going back to school did give me another year of experience and I think it should help in the long run."
Nick Green would love to for a major league team to draft him because he would like to sign but he is prepared to return to college baseball.
Green says if he doesn't turn pro he will sigh with either Valdosta State or Georgia College.
