Valdosta - South Georgians restaurants are teaming up to help wipe out hunger.

Thursday is National Hunger Awareness Day. Educational place mats are scattered on restaurant tables in Valdosta to remind diners to donate money to America's Second Harvest Food Bank. Collection cans are also set up at all cash registers.

"Its also an educational project that we're trying to do to get the word out that hunger does exist here in South Georgia," said Carlee Van Vokenburgh, Volunteer Services Coordinator for America's Second Harvest.

Every dollar donated will help distribute 26 pounds of food.
