Valdosta - The trial of a South Georgia District Attorney accused of having sex with a defendant has been postponed. Alapaha Circuit D.A. Bob Ellis was scheduled to appear in federal court in Valdosta on Monday, but now, that trial has been moved to September.
The delay is due to another indictment handed down last week that charges Ellis with making a false statement to an F-B-I agent. He's also charged with 3 counts of civil rights violation and one count of witness tampering. Investigators say he forced Jody Manning, a drug defendant, to have sex with him, then told her not to talk to F.B.I. agents.
Ellis has qualified for re-election and will be allowed to run unless he is convicted of a felony.
