Valdosta - A candidate for the Georgia Court of Appeals campaigned in South Georgia Tuesday.

Former Cobb County Assistant District Attorney Debra Bernes met with people in Valdosta. She's running for the non-partisan court of appeals seat being vacated by Judge Frank Eldrige.

Bernes has 25 years of legal experience and says she's committed to a legal system that is firm, fair, and equal. "I believe that the role of an appellate judge is not to create the law but to interpret the law in a manner that respects the legal traditions and honors the values of the people of Georgia," said Bernes.

Bernes is facing five other Atlanta-area attorneys in the court of appeals race. The election is July 20th.
